Youth Services Librarian Mr. John shares a memory. One quite fitting of the title "Planting Memories":
"As part of my job as the Youth Services Librarian I visit local schools doing outreach to kids in grades 1-6. I read to them, do book talks, circulate books to their teachers, teach small lessons, and get lots and lots of hugs. It is without a doubt the best thing I do.
Anyway, a particular 1st grader named Vivian had a huge crush on me last year. She always sat in the front row, dressed up on days I came in, scowled when other kids hugged me, and was generally the cutest little thing I've ever seen. Last spring she brought me a tiny branch in a cup of water from a plant she was in charge of watering at home. I let it root, planted it, and it has flowered CONSTANTLY for the last 6 months.
Sometimes there are things in the world that are so beautiful that they bleed over into the rest of your life and make everything magical. This flower if one of those things."
